The SoilTribes project will run for 36 months, starting in January 2026, and is implemented under the Horizon Europe programme within the call “Mission Soil – A Soil Deal for Europe”, funded by the European Research Executive Agency (REA).
Podillia State University, in partnership with:
- NGO Society of Soil expert and Land managers Bukovina (SSELMB“Terra”)
- Kharkiv State Academy of Culture,
- Poltava State Agrarian University,
- State Institution “Derzhgruntokhorona”,
has become a winner of the SoilTribes call, the aim of which is to promote soil literacy, raise public awareness, and actively engage communities in soil protection and restoration.
SoilTribes grants are designed to stimulate behavioural change and foster innovation at the intersection of science, art, and society. The SoilTribes Consortium (https://soiltribes.eu/consortium/) is part of one of the European Union’s flagship initiatives — EU Mission: A Soil Deal for Europe, which is funded through the large-scale research and innovation programme Horizon Europe.
The Consortium focuses on concrete actions, including:
- soil monitoring;
- reduction of soil pollution and overall degradation;
- soil carbon sequestration;
- development of carbon farming practices.
SoilTribes places strong emphasis on a bottom-up approach, in which farmers, landowners, and students are not merely implementers, but co-creators of innovative solutions.
For the first time in Ukraine and Europe, a Living Soil Museum will be established within the framework of the project. Podillia State University acts as an academic partner and host institution for the Soil Museum. Its role includes:
- integrating the museum into educational programmes;
- training student facilitators to engage with the public;
- organising guided tours and hands-on workshops on soil monitoring and conservation.
