The research department is a structural unit that reports to the vice-rector for academic, scientific, innovative, and international activities and is accountable to and controlled by the university rector. The research department promotes the implementation of state policy in the field of science, scientific and technical innovation, intellectual property, and technology transfer within the system of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and other sectoral ministries.

The main tasks are: coordination and control of scientific work at the university; organization of high-level fundamental, applied, and exploratory research for further use in the development of priority areas of science and technology, social development, and economic growth of the country; formation of scientific schools and highly qualified scientific teams; effective use of scientific potential to solve scientific and scientific-technical problems of the national economy in general, and the agricultural sector in particular; active use of the results of scientific research in the educational process and broad involvement of students in their implementation; expansion of scientific and technical cooperation with foreign and domestic centers of academic and industrial science; development of innovative activities, patent and licensing work, information support, and transfer of scientific and technical products.

The main functions are:

• organization, support, and accounting for the preparation of projects for participation in competitive selections for conducting fundamental and applied scientific research and performing scientific and technical developments at the expense of the state budget;

• monitoring and analysis of indicators of the current state of scientific and innovative activity;

• support and accounting of the results of conferences included in the university's plan of events, Olympiads, and competitions of student scientific works;

• organizing and supporting the submission of materials for the awarding of prizes and scholarships based on the scientific achievements of university staff, graduate students, and undergraduates;

• recording, processing, and summarizing information and analytical materials related to the university's research work for the preparation of internal and external reports;

• preparation and submission of reporting documentation on the results of fundamental and applied scientific research and scientific and technical developments to the Ministry of Education and Science, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, etc.;

• concluding economic agreements for the implementation and realization of the university's scientific and technical developments;

• preparing (with scientific supervisors), drawing up, and approving documentation on state budget and economic agreement research and development projects (agreements, protocols, calendar plans, etc.);

• developing and approving (with the university's planning department) cost estimates, staffing tables for research and development projects, and monitoring their implementation;

• maintaining current and reporting documentation on research and development projects, correspondence with customers (work completion reports, financial documents, etc.);

• organization, provision, and control (with the university's accounting department) of the rational use of financial and material and technical resources allocated for scientific activities;

• transfer of the results of scientific activities (organization of exhibitions of scientific works and scientific and technical developments, preparation and publication of advertising products on the priority areas of the university's scientific and innovative activities and their promotion in the media, preparation of catalogs of the most effective scientific developments, etc.);

• developing the necessary regulatory and technical documentation to regulate and control scientific and innovative activities at the university;

• developing and implementing a unified patent and licensing policy for the university;

• monitoring of scientific research and scientific and methodological developments of the university's structural units in order to identify commercially significant and protected objects.
